Rollin, Rollin, Rollin...

Love my sweet roly-poly!

Is it just me or does he look like a big boy here?

Coleton is all over the place... and watch out, because he'll bulldoze you if you're in his path!

1, 2...

How many teeth can you count?

It took several weeks for Coleton's first tooth (bottom center right) to pop through. Then, about a week later, both top center teeth as well as the tooth next to the right center tooth, came through. And before we knew, his bottom left tooth popped out as well. Despite all this teething, our sweet baby boy continues to be such a happy little guy!

Movin' On Up

Thursday night was Coleton's first night in his crib. Until tonight, he had slept in our bedroom in the pack-n-play. This was the best decision for us, especially while I was breast feeding and Coleton was still waking up in the middle of the night to nurse. However, we had been meaning to move him to the crib...and then he kept getting sick.
Remember: right ear infection, bronchitis for about 4 weeks, and then double ear infections?

But we took the plunge... and he's done great!

The 1st night he cried for about 30 minutes, the 2nd night 20, and by Saturday night he fell asleep in less than 10 minutes. No, we aren't just letting him cry it out in his crib, because I don't feel like that's the best choice for us. But we are trying to let him put himself to sleep, instead of depending on us. He goes down around 8-8:30 and still wakes up once a night and eats (but hopefully not for much longer). Yay for Coleton!

PS - Little man has a bottom tooth barely poking out!

6 Months

Happy 1/2 Birthday to Coleton! At 6 months, Coleton...
  • weighs about 16 pounds
  • is eating cereal very well with a spoon. We start solids soon!
  • recognizes us. It's so sweet to see him light up or smile at someone he knows (especially when it's me!)
  • rolls front to back ALL the time!
  • tries to sit up by himself in his stroller, high chair, or if reclined back against you. He can even sustain prop sitting (propped up on both arms) briefly!
  • chews on his fingers constantly! He HAS to be teething but we surely don't feel anything in his gums.
  • enjoys his excersaucer and only needs to be propped up a little bit now that he's gotten tall enough.
  • LOVES bath time. I seriously need to figure out how to add video to the blog, because it is hilarious to see him play in the tub!
  • is finally growing hair!! It seems small amounts of new fuzz appears on the top of his head everyday. So far, it's still dark.
  • laughs so easily. He has even started to notice the dogs, and laughs at Tanner all the time. All Tanner has to do is walk by Coleton, sniff his feet, or sometimes just look at him, and the boy starts to crack up. It's so sweet and funny!
  • is a dare devil! Our little man loves to be thrown up in the air (by Daddy of course) or any other adventurous activity.
  • has gotten off his night-time schedule, thanks to the bronchitis and his new ability to roll onto his tummy. Right now, either his coughing or rolling cause him to wake up several times a night. Plus we're still doing a feeding (formula) in the middle of the night. No, my 6 month old doesn't sleep through the night... yes, I've read several books about schedules, routines, etc. We have a routine; we have a schedule; he doesn't sleep through the night. Let's leave it at that - our time is coming! :)

Coleton, you continue to melt our hearts everyday and we can't imagine life without you. You are so much fun and just the greatest blessing to us! You are such a good baby; we could not have asked God for more! We love you so much!

*Coleton's 6 month check-up isn't actually until early next month due to scheduling issues, so I'll keep everyone posted when the time comes.

5 Months

Another month has come and gone! At 5 months, Coleton...
  • weighs ~15 pounds (he weighed 14.8 lbs at his sick visit for his ear infection on 4/1)
  • loves sucking on his toes, especially when lying on his back or in his bouncy seat. He did this for the first time on 3/12 while sitting in the bouncer
  • likes hanging out with his buddy George (its so hard to get a good picture of them together!)

  • rolled from his back to tummy all by himself while at his Meme and Papaw's house on 3/19... still not rolling over all the time but it won't be long.
  • loves tummy time - especially naked tummy time!

  • handled his first night away from Mommy like a pro! Mommy went to an Extraordinary Women conference with Aunt Tiffaney and Aunt Keala on 3/26-3/27 in Greenville while Coleton and Daddy took care of each other at home.
  • has started playing in his new exersaucer. Because he is small, he needs to be propped up in the seat, but he loves playing with all the toys while standing up.

  • is mostly breastfed, but receives one bottle of formula during the middle of the night. He got his first bottle of formula on the night of 3/28. I am so thankful that he was able to be exclusively breast fed for 4 months!
  • has started putting his hands on his bottle when you feed him. He must think he's a big boy. ~sigh~

  • likes having rice cereal, either in his bottle or while being spoon-fed. But be careful if feeding him - he loves to grab the spoon!
  • loves bath time so much that it pretty much requires a wet suit for the washers. Watch out for those little legs and arms - they make BIG splashes!
  • enjoys riding in his stroller or going for walks in the carrier

And just to be fair, Coleton does not like:
  • taking naps (we're lucky if he makes it to 30 minutes)
  • being in the car seat, especially being in the backseat by himself...unless it's nap time. Coleton loves riding in his Daddy's truck because his car seat sits next to Daddy!
  • burping halfway through a bottle. He will poke out and curl his lip, and then cry as if you've physically hurt him until you let him finish his bottle! That boy loves to eat!
Coleton, you are such a blessing! You really are a happy and good baby! You handle being around new people well, don't mind being passed around so all your loved ones can hold you, and pretty much smile and flirt with any girl that looks your way! You have the best laugh and Daddy knows just where your tickle spots are. We thank God daily that he chose us to be your parents. We love you SO much!!

Rice Cereal

Today Coleton had his first taste of rice cereal...

All ready for my new adventure; don't I look so cute in my seat?

Wait, what are you two up to?

Whatcha got Mommy?

Seriously, what is this?

Hmm, it's not so bad

But I think I'd rather have my toes!

4 Months

Our sweet baby boy is 4 months old! Our little guy...
  • weighs 13.2 lbs (8th percentile), is 25 inches long (43rd percentile) and has a head circumference of 41 cm (30th percentile). We're still a little on the small side, but those thighs are definitely chunking up!
  • is so attentive to everything! He definitely recognizes us, notices when we leave the room or come in, and has become such a talker and smiler
  • consistently reaches for and grabs his toys - he loves his rattle and rings the most!
  • eats 2-3 six ounce bottles a day at daycare and waking up once a night to eat (usually)
  • has started eating rice cereal (more to come on that)
  • wears 3-6 month clothes...I'm finding more and more outfits he no longer fits into
  • grabs his feet all the time if on his back or sitting in the bouncy seat
  • has the BEST laugh! Seriously!
I know I've said it before, but Coleton is such a JOY to us. I knew that being a Mommy would be awesome, but it's far better than I could have ever imagined. I thank God everyday for such a sweet and healthy blessing and I'm so thankful that I get to be his mommy!

3 Months

At 3 months, Coleton...
  • is smiling a lot and even giggled for the first time this month when Mommy tickled his chin
  • still doesn't have much hair!
  • is finally fitting the 0-3 month outfits and weighs about 12 pounds. Mommy had to pack away all those sweet little newborn clothes

  • drools, drools, and drools some more and has started blowing bubbles
  • loves to put his fingers in his mouth and tries to put all of them in at the same time
  • enjoys his playmat and even being on his tummy

  • holds his head up perfectly on his tummy and in sitting
  • has figured out the Bumbo seat; he wasn't so sure about it at first!
  • is starting to roll over onto his side from his back and is reaching for the toys on his playmat and bouncy seat

  • eats three 5 ounce bottles at daycare and nurses ~4 times a day during the week (more on the weekend when Mommy isn't working)
  • still wakes up ~1 time a night to eat

This little guy is the JOY of our lives! While going back to work has been a huge adjustment, I am so thankful to be able to leave him in good hands during the day! I am also thankful that I have Fridays off and can spend the day lovin' on my little man. Coleton, we love you so much and are incredibly thankful that we get to be your Mommy and Daddy!

We Survived...

Today was our first day of daycare (meaning back to work for Mommy) and we've survived. Of course, there was never any doubt about Coleton but Mommy on the other hand... well, let's just say we're thankful for all the prayers! :)

Coleton is going to the CDC where his Gram works, so he gets to hang out with her every morning for a little bit. And she's great about checking on him throughout the day and sending Mommy and Daddy updates and pictures. I can't believe how fast the last 12 weeks have flown by and how big my sweet boy is getting! Here he is sleeping in his car seat in his crib on his first morning:

Thanks to all of you who called/texted/facebooked me with encouragement! And thank you to Kip and Terry for the beautiful flowers that definitely cheered me up while at work! Love you all!

2 Month Well Check-Up

This morning our sweet boy had his two month check-up and he's finally on the charts for his height and weight!! It seems our little guy is just that, but we're thankful he's at least growing and gaining weight!

Weight: 10.8 lbs, 17th percentile
Height: 22.5 inches, 24th percentile
Head circumference: 38.5 cm, 14th percentile

Dr. Cope also cauterized Coleton's belly button because it was still leaking occasionally from his cord falling off. Now his belly button is this charcoal gray color - kinda crazy looking but only temporary! Coleton also had to get 3 shots, 1 in each leg and 1 oral shot. He cried, as did Mommy, but Daddy was there to make us both feel better! Now we're spending the day resting and taking Tylenol to keep the fever and pain away. Love to you all!

2 Months

Happy 2 month birthday to my favorite little man!

You are growing bigger by the day.

We love you more than you can know!

January 6, 2011

8 weeks

At 8 weeks, Coleton...

  • Smiles, coos and giggles - especially at his Daddy during midnight diaper changes or when you talk to him

  • "talks" to you and even "sings" with Mommy, which is SO fun!
  • Is growing, growing, growing and is growing out of those newborn clothes; 2 month well check-up is 1/19 so we'll get his official weight and length at that visit
  • Enjoys his bouncer, swing, and tummy time mat
  • Goes ~3 hours between feedings during the day and 3-5 hours at night

  • Naps ~30-60 minutes 2 times a day, usually in the swing or bassinet
  • Still sleeps in the bassinet in Mommy and Daddy's room at night... don't know how much longer we'll do this, but it is so convenient for those middle of the night feedings (and we have about 2 a night)

  • Loves to rock with Daddy at night
  • Mouths his right hand all the time and occasionally sucks his thumb

  • Is starting to get control of his head; he can hold it up when lying against your chest or shoulder and even briefly when sitting (if you hold his trunk)
  • Continues to not have hair on the front of his head; it does not appear that any more has fallen out but I don't think any is growing back yet either!

I had a friend once tell me that each new stage of her child's development became her favorite, and now I understand what she meant! It's so fun to watch Coleton's personality start to show. He melts my heart every time he laughs or smiles at me :)

December 11, 2010

4 weeks

At 4 weeks, Coleton...
  • is starting to coo and smile
  • is losing his hair from front to back and sort of looks like an old man :)
  • can lift and rotate his head while on his tummy
  • enjoys his bouncy seat (thanks Aunt Keala!)
  • weighs 7 lbs 14 ounces - gained 1 lb in 2 weeks!
  • loves bath time but hates the cold that comes with getting out of the tub (who doesn't?)

  • goes 2-3 hours between feedings during the day and ~4 hours at night
  • loves looking at the lights on the Christmas tree
  • appears to enjoy listening to Mommy sing Christmas hymns - or at least he doesn't complain
  • sucks his fingers and hands more frequently

Hard to believe our little man is already a month old! Time is flying by! Daddy goes back to work next week so we will have to adjust our routine a little bit. It has been such a blessing to have him home with us this past month. Sending our love to everyone!!

December 2, 2010

3 weeks

...and growing! We've only gained a little bit of weight since our last visit, but Dr. Cope isn't concerned yet so neither are we. Current weight (as of 11/29) is 6.15, with another weight check next week.

LOVE THIS LITTLE BOY!
